The Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution 2025 Chinese New Year celebration was successfully held on February 10 at the 3rd floor auditorium of Thong Chai Building. The institution was honoured to have Senior Honorary Chairman Mr. Wong Swee Chun PBM as the guest of honour. Numerous distinguished guests gathered to celebrate this occasion, including Life Senior Honorary Chairmen Mr. Chua Thian Poh BBM, DUBC, Mr. Tan Cheng Gay, Mr. Lew Chee Beng PBM and Mr. Ho Kiau Seng BBM; Senior Honorary Chairmen Mr. Chua Leong Hai PBM and Mr. Neo Kah Kiat BBM, as well as Honorary Chairmen Mdm. Low Yuen Theng and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Tan Tock Han, Mr. Oh Boon Shi Tome, Ms. Thia Sia Eng, Tan Sri Cheng Yong Kim and Mr. Aw Chye Wee. Other notable attendees included Legal Advisors Ms. Lim Lay Choo Jennifer PBM and Mr. Ong Lip Cheng Peter, Honorary Advisor Mr. Khoo Boo Liat and Medical Advisor Mr. Teo Eng Kiat. Special guests included Mr. Dong Baoqiang from Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (LNUTCM) and his family, along with the institution’s honorary directors, board members, members and staff. A total of 165 guests attended the celebration.

At 6:00 PM, The emcees, Physicians Tiew Chong Hui Grace and Wong Chiah Yuen warmly welcomed the guest of honour with a round of applause. Chairman Mr. Yeo Eng Koon delivered the opening speech, extending his heartfelt welcome to all guests. He also expressed special gratitude to all board members for their generous sponsorship, which made the event possible.

In 2024, Thong Chai’s charitable efforts continued, significant event Hakka Cultural Food Festival held during the 95th anniversary celebration of the Nanyang Hakka Federation, which successfully raised over 2.3 million SGD for the institution. Chairman took the opportunity to express his deep appreciation once again and pledged that the board will continue to innovate, expand fundraising channels, and collaborate with more individuals and organizations to drive progress. This year, the institution will also host a charity golf tournament, coinciding with Singapore’s 60th National Day, in hopes of raising additional funds. Besides, Chairman also presented the 2024 Outstanding Employee Awards to the staff who demonstrated dedication and excellence in their roles. The celebration featured a variety of performances prepared by the staff. A special highlight this year was the Karaoke Contest, where board members and staff showcased their vocal talents after weeks of preparation. The judging panel, comprised Legal Advisors Ms. Lim Lay Choo Jennifer PBM and Mr. Ong Lip Cheng Peter, along with Medical Advisor Mr. Teo Eng Kiat.

An essential part of the celebration was the “Jie Cai Shen” segment. The role of Cai Shen this year was played by Head of Medicine Committee Mr. Chan Sen Meng PBM and Head of Public Relations Committee Mr. Kwa Cheng Song Eric, accompanied by four Xiao Cai Shen (played by Physicians Aw Yong Keong Poh, Lin Lay Yiak, Ng Chin Kian and Chan Zhihao). They made their way around the venue, distributing red packets and gifts to the guests.

During the toasting ceremony, Honorary Secretary Mr. Low Theng Whee led the board members in a lively performance on stage, followed by three loud cheers of “Yum Seng!”. The excitement continued with the much-anticipated lucky draw, where various prizes, gift vouchers, and hampers brought delight to the winners, further enhancing the interactive enjoyment of the night.

As the celebration drew to a close, the awards for Best Costume, Best Stage Presence, Best Talent Performance, and the Karaoke Contest Champion were announced, with the guest of honour presenting the awards. The event concluded on a high note as the emcees once again expressed heartfelt gratitude to the board members for their generous sponsorship, the General Affairs Committee for their meticulous preparations, and the staff for their enthusiastic participation, all of which contributed to a lively and successful Chinese New Year celebration.
