Thong Chai Medical Institution celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017 with a series of events starting with a walkathon on 23rd May, a fundraising TV show on 17th September and culminating in a charity dinner on 23rd September. All events are well attended and supported by people from all walks of life. On 18th November, an appreciation dinner was held at Yan Palace Restaurant (Hong Lim Complex) to thank all the directors and staff for their hard work through the year. The Guest of Honour was Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong, Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Manpower & Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other guests included the MP for Sembawang GRC, Dr Lim Wee Kiak, heads of various associations including China Cultural Centre, Vice Principal of Zhonghua Secondary School and media representatives. The GOH arrived to the resounding welcome of Chinese orchestral music. After speeches by Honorary Secretary Mr Khoo Boo Liat and MOS Tan, the dinner commenced. Programs for the night included presentation of Long Service Awards by Dr Lim to 3 staff who had served 20, 40 and 50 years respectively, as well as appreciation plaques to supporting organisations and honorary directors who contributed. MOS Tan presented appointment certificates to the institution’s newly installed Honorary Chairmen. Appointed members of the Supervisory and Management Committees of “Thong Chai Foundation” were invited on stage to take a photograph with MOS Tan in a simple ceremony that formalises the establishment of the fund. Guests were then entertained to a song by a quintet of young NTU physicians who sang their well wishes for Thong Chai’s bright future. Soon after, the board of directors gathered onstage to toast all guests for their support. Other performances included Chinese zither and ocarina instrumental solo or duet pieces. Each guest was given a “Thong Chai Charity Night” CD as a souvenir for the night’s event.MP Dr Lim Wee Kiak arrives at the restaurant
