The Nanyang Hakka Cultural Food Festival held on April 28, 2024, in collaboration with the Nanyang Hakka Association of Singapore, successfully concluded at the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations. This event not only provided an opportunity for thousands of members of the public to taste traditional Hakka cuisines but also raised over 1.8 million as donations for the Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institute's medical foundation, encouraging acts of kindness and preserving our cultural heritage. On the day of the event, Dr. Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry attended as the guest of honor, while Mr. Eric Chua Swee Leong PBM, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community, and Youth and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development, also visited the festival booths alongside the public. Additionally, a total of 16 directors and their families from STCMI attended the opening ceremony. They were Chairman Mr. Yeo Eng Koon and his wife, Vice Chairman Mr. Lim Tiang Chuan, Vice Chairman Mr. Tan Tock Han and his wife, Honorary Secretary Mr. Low Theng Whee, Assistant Honorary Secretary Mr. Lim Hwee Hai, Honorary Treasurer Mr. Kwa Soon Yau, Head of Medicine Committee Mr. Tan Kah Moh, Head of General Affairs Committee Miss Ng Puay Cheng, Head of Fund-Raising and Public Relations Committee Mr. Kwa Cheng Song, Head of Property Committee Mr. Ng Cheng Huat, Deputy Head of Property Committee Mr. Joe Goh Yong Joo, Deputy Head of Medicine Committee Ms. Tan Siew Buoy, Deputy Head of General Affairs Committee Ms. Tan Choy Tip, and Deputy Head of Fundraising Committee Mr. Aw Khee Giap. Approximately 66 volunteers from STCMI also participated in the event, contributing their time and effort to the charity activities. At the festival, the public could taste over 80 varieties of Hakka cuisine, including Yellow Wine Chicken, Abacus Seeds, Braised Pork with Pickled Vegetables, and Yong Tau Foo, as well as purchase various dry goods, beverages, and desserts. Each booth had a donation box and volunteers assisted the public in depositing their used coupons. This event marked the Nanyang Hakka Association's return to hosting such a large-scale food festival and charity sale after 16 years. After nearly half a year of preparation, approximately 6,000 vouchers were sold, attracting over 3,500 attendees on the actual day of the event. Combined with donations from individuals across the society, the total amount raised exceeded 1.8 million. Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institute sincerely thanks the Nanyang Hakka Association, all members of the public who participated in the event, dedicated volunteers who contributed their time and effort as well as generous donors for their support and contributions. STCMI sent out more than 40 volunteers to participate in this event. They were dressed in STCMI signature red uniforms, committed themselves wholeheartedly to charitable endeavors with love.
